Kristi's Dance Academy
Musical theatre in February 2009
Kristi's Dance Academy is a dance school which students attend for many years, working towards exams annually and a showcase production bi-annually. 160 children aged from six to 25 take part in the production over the course of six performances, which London Light Production Services lit using a combination of Vari-Lite VL2K luminaires and an Artistic License Color Web back cloth, controlled by an Eos lighting control system.
The show's producer, Kristi Jones at Kristi's Dance Academy, says: "We do a range of numbers, from classical ballet to contemporary tap and jazz - it's a real mix. I give David photographs of each of the performance groups so he can see the costumes, ages of the students involved along with a copy of the soundtrack, to give him an idea of the type of atmosphere we are trying to create for each individual piece. David then goes away and prepares the lighting.
"The lighting itself ranges from very bright and colourful for the younger ones - primarily so that the children's faces are very clear - to darker and more atmospheric for the older ones.
"We were first recommended to David at London Light by the managers at the Hampton Hill Playhouse, where he was doing a lot of work at the time. I've always been very pleased with the service he's provided - his pre-planning is excellent and he always makes sure everything is ready in good time, with everything rigged and out of the way so that we have the stage when we need it. When we've got a million and one things to do, we need to know that everything is taken care of - and it always is!
"I'd definitely recommend them - I wouldn't have been using them for so long if I didn't!"
