Hotting up with Disco Inferno
In July, London Light provided full production services to Hillview School for Girls for Disco Inferno, the school's end of year production.
Lighting designer Andy Vere says: "The brief given to London Light for the production was simply lots of movement and colour. So I used Mac 600s for colour and VL2k Spots for intensity and spread. This variation was specified in order to give the school best value for money. I also used four mirror balls of different sizes to be hung over the auditorium and stage to give the finale the full Disco Inferno feel."
The cues were pre-plotted on a London Light ETC Eos console before being transferred to a ETC Ion in the venue due to space issues in the control room and budget. The actual performances were operated by one of the students, Tash Holway. She says: "In a big show like Disco Inferno it is really difficult to create lighting that complements the music and style of the piece rather than distracting from it. Andy's design overcame this problem effortlessly, making a stunning stage picture and resulting in a visually striking show. It was a pleasure to operate! Working with Andy was a privilege and I hope to do so again soon."
Hillview School's technical manager Rob Arundel called on London Light after working with the company in the past. He adds: "Working in a school environment is very different from the theatre; timetabling puts the needs of the pupils above the needs of the show. This means that there is very limited time for all of the technical aspects of the show. London Light came fully equipped for such a challenging job, fully understanding the requirements not only of the show but the staff and pupils as well. It is often the case when employing lighting companies that, although they do a good job, are not very approachable, making it difficult for staff to work with them. This was not so with London Light. Andy did a tremendous job putting the director at her ease and making himself very much apart of our team, working not only with staff but pupils as well. The lighting for Disco made a good show a fantastic show."
London Light is pleased to be able to support the school's end of year production and looks forward to working closely with the school and pupils in the future.
